Child’s Play

He often skipped to school singing
Whether rain or sun,
He kept a song on his lips, skipping
Parents had to be proud of their son.

I did not know his name
Yet I saw him everyday with a smile
A happy kid enjoying life’s game
On his way to school, just a half mile

In a blink, we lost a star in the sky
His footsteps faded from the concrete
Replaced by stains painful to the eye
Killed by a drunken driver in the cross streets
